Building A Business As An Artistic Designer
That's a fantastic topic! Building a business in art and design, especially leveraging digital media, is a relevant and interesting subject. Here are some ideas and tips you might consider including in your sketch blog:
Online Presence and branding
For any business these days it is so important to create and establish yourself online so that other people may connect with you and can further build trust with you; as long as you’re consistency and branding.
When it comes to consistency I really have to say, that is a task I’m really working hard at to build. And I suppose the only real hold-up or slow-down that I have right now with it is the fact that I have so many interests. Hmn. Does every artist have that handicap; you know, the whole squirrel!!! phenomenon?
Consistency is really an easy thing to maintain as long as habits are formed. It is written (rather profusely really) that habits are formed by reminding one’s self over the course of 28 days up to 3 months depending on the frequency set in your calendar of that task.
I would highly recommend reviewing this concept on Stephanie Northcott’s Blog for more on identifying and establishing you through colors, fonts, and words.
Emphasize the significance of consistent branding across platforms to create a cohesive and recognizable identity….I mentioned the concept of building trust with those who like what it is you’re doing. They may like what you’ve got going at first, but a solid connection and social media follow really only happens if they see that you have a consistent brand; you obviously know who you are, and thusly know who you’re speaking to. People trust that more when they see cohesive design choices informed by this affinity for your branding. It makes it all the more simple for you to be yourself in business when you aren’t confusing yourself and others with the use of various unrelated themes in your business outreach.
My takeaway this week is that I need to be certain I’ve written down all these details; my favorite colours, font types, and styles along with the use of one recognizable logo design, which will call to mind all the elements people know you for in one image. And then - to consistently connect with you with a voice that reminds you of what it’s like to interact with me in person. The more real I can be online - the better the experience in person!
Until next time - let’s all do our best to be true to ourselves and our branding. Connect with who you are, and build on that on a regular basis.
